Inquiry wanted over mother-to-be

An MP is taking up the cases of a mother-to-be who was warned her child would be taken away and a woman whose four children were put into care. Children's staff in Northumberland said Fran Lyon is likely to suffer from Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy and accused Marianne Key of having it. Birmingham Yardley MP John Hemming said there must be a full inquiry. Northumberland County Council said all actions it takes to protect children followed national guidelines. New life It added that inspectors recently rated its arrangements for safeguarding children as good. A mother with Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy can invent illnesses in her child, or harm it, to attract attention. Heavily pregnant Fran Lyon fled first to the West Midlands and then to mainland Europe to escape social workers, after she was warned her child would be taken into care within 30 minutes of birth.
