CHILD protection could have been compromised in Lister Hospital according to a number of audit reports. As part of the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust's annual child protection report, a sample of personnel files viewed by internal auditors revealed two doctors' files did not contain full CRB disclosures. In the minutes of a Trust's board meeting recently, Stephen Brooker, chairman of the audit committee, said the reports highlighted shortcomings in the HR department, particularly in pursuing references, and the possibility CRB checks could be missed was concerning. The director of HR agreed it was never acceptable to have any degree of risk in relation to CRB checks and she would be addressing the issue. A spokesman for the Trust said: "Where doctors are in training, the CRB checking system allows for portability of such reports where doctors move on rotation, from hospital to hospital."
