Attempts to groom teenage girls via social networking websites have made investigations of child protection cases more complex, police said. Northern Constabulary Chief Constable Ian Latimer said there was a concern about predatory males using the sites to contact impressionable youngsters. His views are expressed in a report to the Northern Joint Police Board. In March, parents had contacted police about the content of some internet blog sites used by children. Northern Constabulary said some sites used by youngsters to post profiles of themselves and pictures appeared to depict children posing with offensive weapons and alcohol. Court case In his report to Wednesday's police board, Mr Latimer said there had been a "notable decrease" in the number of child protection cases investigated. But he added that they were proving to be protracted and complex. The chief constable's warning comes in the wake of a High Court case where a man, who had sex with two underage girls he met in an internet chat room, was jailed for eight years.
