Day care centre staff across in Hounslow have agreed reluctantly to take on controversial new duties - but say it is only until they can decide on further legal action.
Last week, care workers rankled at being ordered by Hounslow Council to take over the twice daily minibus escort runs to pick up and drop off elderly and disabled people to and from their homes, on top of their existing work.
Staff who refused to do the runs on Monday, when the change was implemented, said they received letters from the council threatening them with suspension.
But on Wednesday Unison advised its members to work under protest', which means that although they will carry out the duties for the time being they have stated in writing that they do not accept them.
Unison claims the council has made fundamental changes to their terms and conditions without going through the full legal process.
A spokesman said: "Our members are between a rock and a hard place so this is a good interim solution because the clients don't lose out.
