DO YOU spend a lot of your time looking after someone who is disabled or elderly – and also have to fit in a job to make ends meet?
The latest report from national charity Carers UK won't come as a surprise.
A few weeks ago we were told that Britain's ever-growing army of 6.6 million carers are saving the government £87bn every year.
That's the equivalent of £15,620 per carer, more than four times the amount spent on social care services for adults and children by local authorities.
Now we have compelling evidence that the care services are failing the four million working age carers, making it harder or even impossible for them to hold down a job.
More than 40% of those caring full time and not in work say that they cannot return to employment because of the lack of services available.
Carers UK’s chief executive Imelda Redmond wants to see a radical overhaul of the system. She says: "We now have the most detailed evidence to date of the issues facing working carers which can inform a more planned approach for the future.
"The Comprehensive Spending Review provides us with an opportunity to set this out and get it right.
"It is clear that current systems do not support carers at key stages of their lives and this latest in-depth analysis shows that care services are systematically failing working carers.
