AN EVIL drug addict who sadistically tortured and killed his partner’s toddler was today beginning a 12-year jail sentence.
Two-year-old Lois suffered a catalogue of horrific injuries in the six weeks leading to her death, including multiple fractures, burns and bruises.
She died from brain damage after being shaken by Daniel Bishop at the home he shared with her mother, Sarah Bishop, in Caerphilly.
The court was told social services could not be criticised because what was happening to Lois was kept from them – but neighbours claimed they told the authorities about their fears for little Lois but say nothing was done.
A multi-agency review has been launched in the light of Lois’ death with the aim of seeing if lessons can be learned.
Daniel Bishop, 27, pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court to the manslaughter of Lois, causing her grievous bodily harm with intent and to child cruelty.
Sarah Bishop, 29, who admitted child neglect, was sentenced to six years in prison.
This is not the first time someone has suffered at the hands of Daniel Bishop.
In April 2002, he was the passenger in a stolen van, taken from outside a store in Caerphilly which mowed down its delivery driver Jason Weaver.
The 36-year-old died when he was hit by his own vehicle.
Yesterday, John Charles Rees QC, prosecuting, said: “This is a horrific case in which a two-year-old girl was systematically abused, tortured and ultimately unlawfully killed.”
