A Severely disabled offender has been released back into the community, after a Crown Court judge demanded action from North Lincolnshire Council's social services. Lee Graham (19), who is profoundly deaf and has the mentality of a nine-year-old, burgled the home of a disabled Scunthorpe woman on May 25.However, she struggled with Graham in her home and managed to pull off his hearing aid. This resulted in his arrest through a DNA match. Last Monday, Judge John Reddihough, sitting at Grimsby Crown Court, said he was concerned about the role of social services in Graham's case. He pointed out, should he decide against an immediate custodial sentence, it appeared he would be returned without supervision to his home on Diana Street, Scunthorpe. Demanding a social services director attend court for a hearing last Friday, he pointed out the department was aware Graham had been assessed as needing 24-hour supervision. Following Judge Reddihough's demand, director of adult services Mike Briggs attended the hearing, which was held in private. And, after a satisfactory supervision package was put forward, Judge Reddihough gave Graham 24 weeks' youth detention, suspended for 12 months for the admitted burglary.
