I had a very busy week last week – enjoyable but hectic (that’s too hectic to write my blog if my editor’s reading!).Monday
I spent Monday at a National Assessment Agency Exam Officers 14 – 19 Conference. This was an absolute revelation and I learnt more about the planned changes in one day than I had in two years of senior leadership.
Tuesday Tuesday was a meeting with my timetabling mentor – I’ll be writing my first whole-school timetable this year and so have to start early. WednesdayWednesday morning was Target Review Day for Year 8 and 9. Looking at current levels and then setting ‘aspirational targets’, this is the Head’s phrase, I think it just means ‘high but not too high’. Wednesday afternoon was Child Protection INSET. Apparently you’re supposed to be trained every two years. This was my first in my twelve years as a qualified teacher. It was interesting but I don’t think we covered enough about practices to safeguard members of staff. I think it’s relatively easy to know what the rules are if a child starts to disclose abuse or if you notice signs of possible abuse in a child. It’s less intuitive to know how to create day to day working practices which help prevent false allegations.
