PARENTS are planning a rally in protest against nursery cuts that they claim will make it harder for them to return to work.
The group will gather outside the City Chambers at noon on Saturday, ahead of an extraordinary meeting to discuss the school closures debacle.
The city council's U-turn over the closure of 22 schools and four community centres has left officers with a budget black hole of £9 million over three years.
One cut that will go some way to helping it balance the books is the reduction of free full-time nursery places from 1054 to 700 by 2009, which is expected to save the council about £1.18 million.
The council is determined to continue to help the poorest members of society, including youngsters on the Child Protection Register, those with additional learning needs and those from poor or troubled backgrounds.
